œFUKASAKA JIZO Kutsukake, Nishiazaicho, Nagahama city, Shiga prefecture 

The ancient road which leads from Shiozu highway to Tsuruga-shi, Fukui.

Once upon a time, Taira no Shigemori tried to dig a canal on this road. However, it is said that as the construction faced a rough passage due to so many rocks and when workers broke rocks, they had stomachaiche, they stopped digging and deified Jizoson. From this it is called "Horidome Jizo ( Stop digging Jizo ).

Also as those who go along with the highway offered salt which is valuable that time to pray for their safe journey, it is also called "Shiokake Jizo (Salt sprinkling Jizo )". Shiozu highway is also called "Highway of Salt" and it used to be an important highway which carried the seafoods which were unloaded in Tsuruga, salt and rice to Kinai.

Public Transporatation: Get off at Omi Shiozu Station of JR Kosei Line and take Bus for 10 minutes
