œYoshitsune's coming-of-age ceremony pond Sakai, Ryuou town, Gamo-gun, Shiga prefecture

March 3, 1174, Ushiwakamaru, son of Minamoto family, wanted to be revival of Genji in Kurama of Kyoto secretly calling himself Shanaou.

Ushiwakamaru who slippd away from Kurama, thinking to visit his brother, Yoritomo, accompanied by Kaneuri Yoshiji in Oushu and Fukasu no Saburou Mitsushige's son, Misasaginosuke Yorishige in Shimousa, entered Kagami no yado (current Kagami, Ryuouchou, Shiga prefecture) in Oumi on his way to east country, and stayed at Sawayade's mansion who is a rich person at that day.

He decided to have a coming-of-age celemony in order to avoid to be found for his ponytail

It is saId that so he made Eboshiya Goroutayuu in Kagami, the local area make Genji's left-turn formal hat, and dropped his front hair using clean water of Kagamiike, reflected his own samurai figure on the water.

There is a pond 130m west from Kagami shrine, and a monument is built near it.

This is the pond so called "Yoshitsune's coming-of-age ceremony pond" and it is said that Yoshitsune used its water at his coming-of-age ceremony.

This pond is made by a spring which oozes from the mountain behind, and its water was so clear beautiful that it was used as drinking water for neighbours, quenching the throats of travelers until water service is maintained.

Public Transporation: Take JR Biwako line, get off at Oumihachiman station, take bus and get off at Kagami bus stop.
