œtomb of Imai Kanehira 2-4-16 Seiran, Otsu city, Shiga prefecture

A tomb standing near Morikoshi river, 200m northeast of JR Ishiyama station

Kanehira Imai (1152?) -84) is a genaral called one of big four of Kiso, Yoshinaka Kiso (1154-84)' s foster brother in the end of Heian period. He fought with Yoshinaka and acomplished a brave death here in Awazu. The tale that he he put the tip of his sword into his mouth, jumped off his horse and killed himself with the sword when he heard that Yoshinaka was killed is talked as a material of Noh song "Kanehira".

It is said that Toshitsugu Honda, Lord of Zeze Domain, buit his tomb respecting Kanehira. The current tomb was built by descendants of Imai clan, and is made of round stone carved with "Imai Shiro Kanehira".
